Read the research behind the formula
AETHIC’s formulation work includes coral testing and published sea-urchin research. These sources describe specific formulas, organisms and test conditions. They should be read in that context.
Coral testing and the patent
European patent EP2736482B1 describes experiments with sunscreen ingredients and coral under specified conditions. A patent protects an invention; it does not establish that a product has no environmental impact.

Published sea-urchin research
A 2017 study evaluated a finished SPF40 sunscreen. At 24 hours, embryo abnormalities did not differ significantly from the control. The study also reported larval and enzyme effects. Its findings do not support a blanket claim that the sunscreen causes no harm to marine life, and they do not confirm the equivalence of every current product.

A separate assessment of SPF50
The SPF50 sunscreen was assessed against two reference alternatives, with lower impact in 11 of 16 measured environmental categories. The life-cycle assessment was independently reviewed, and SPF50 became the first consumer product admitted to the Water Revolution Foundation’s Hub of Verified Solutions. This verification is specific to the assessed product and scope.
