The findings, in context
AETHIC’s formulation research includes coral testing described in European patent EP2736482B1 and published sea-urchin testing of a finished SPF40 sunscreen. These sources address specific formulas and experimental conditions.
The 2017 sea-urchin study found no significant difference in embryo abnormalities at 24 hours compared with the control. It also reported larval and enzyme effects. These results do not establish an absence of harm to all marine life, or confirm the equivalence of every current product.
A separate life-cycle assessment compared the SPF50 sunscreen with two reference alternatives. It showed lower impact in 11 of 16 measured environmental categories and was independently reviewed. The Water Revolution Foundation’s verification applies to the assessed SPF50 product and comparison.

Product ingredient lists and directions are available on individual product pages and packaging. Broad claims should always be checked against the finished formula, species, concentrations and exposure times actually studied.
